This map is a growing record of Macon County’s documented history, local traditions, folk practices, personal memories, and unexplained experiences. Select a marker to learn more about a place, or use Share a Story to contribute something connected with a location of your own.
What belongs on the map?
You’re welcome to share information connected with a particular place in Macon County, including:
- Local legends and stories passed through families or communities
- Personal memories connected with a building, road, neighborhood, or landscape
- Funeral, healing, protective, divinatory, or other traditional practices
- Documented historic events and old newspaper accounts
- Reported apparitions, sounds, dreams, feelings, or unexplained experiences
- Unusual natural features, old paths, former structures, and places that no longer exist
How to share a story

How submissions are handled
Every submission is reviewed before it appears publicly. Stories may be edited for clarity, historical context, privacy, and location sensitivity. A personal experience or local tradition will not be presented as verified history unless supporting evidence is available.
Please don’t include private contact information, identify living people without their permission, enter private property, disturb graves, or reveal vulnerable archaeological or culturally sensitive sites. Submission doesn’t guarantee publication.
